Make it a Real Christmas

Christmas. A time of family cheer. The smell of the turkey roasting, log fires, glistening fairy lights and that wonderful smell of pine from a real Christmas tree. These are just some of the fond memories we associate with this special time of year. But would Christmas really be the same without a real Christmas tree? Nothing else creates that sense of wonder on the faces of children as they gaze into the depths of this magical wonderland.

Real Christmas Trees and the Environment

Noble Fir plantation.Growing Christmas trees benefits the environment by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. It is estimated that the six million Christmas trees growing in Ireland are removing approximately three hundred tons of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere annually. Artificial trees, however are primarily made of plastic. These are oil based which is not a renewable source.

Real Christmas Trees and Employment

Artificial trees are in general imported. As an indigenous industry, natural Christmas trees provide employment at home. Growers, nurserymen, planters, weeders, pruners, contractors, transporters and retailers benefit from the purchase of real Christmas trees.

Real Christmas Trees and the Countryside

Lodgepole PlantationChristmas trees growing on a hillside are a wonderful sight to behold. Not only pleasing to the eye, they are an important part of the natural cycle and provide a habitat for wildlife. Grown specifically as a Christmas tree crop over a six to eight year period, they are harvested and the land is then tilled and replanted. This year buy a real Christmas tree and capture the magic of a traditional Christmas. We will all benefit.
