Irish Oak to Provide Theme for National Heritage Week 2010
Waterford student, Diarmuid Brennan, has been named as winner of the National Heritage Week Poster Competition. Diarmuid’s poster will be developed by a professional design agency and feature in the National Heritage Week Advertising Campaign which will include TV, print and online.
The theme of Diarmuid’s winning poster is ‘Discover your Roots’. The poster contains an image of a tree with elements of Irish heritage visible at the roots of the tree. Speaking about his poster Diarmuid said "the tree is an Irish Oak which is symbolic of Irish heritage and is an iconic symbol of life. The roots represent where you’ve come from which is why different aspects of Irelands heritage are intertwined within them.

Western Rail Corridor Reopens
The new Limerick to Galway rail line was officially reopened on Monday 29th March for the first time in 34 years. The re-opening of the rail link comes after €106m has been spent on upgrading the Ennis to Athenry line.

Ireland West Airport Knock - New Flights
Ireland West Airport Knock has launched two new services with Ryanair to Leeds-Bradford and Faro, Algarve. The introduction of these new services now brings to 13 the number of scheduled destinations available at Ireland West Knock and compliments its additional network of 10 European holiday destinations. This latest expansion by Ryanair at Ireland West Knock will bring an additional 75,000+ seats per annum to the Airport this year.

No Passport required
Irish Ferries has issued a statement advising passengers that no passport is required when travelling to Britain by ferry.
Contrasting this situation with rules laid down by airlines who demand that all passengers to Britain be in possession of a valid passport, Irish Ferries states that, when travelling to Britain by ferry from the Republic of Ireland, Irish passengers need only be in possession of a valid official ID in the form of a driving licence or suchlike.

Over 1.2 million passengers travel through Dublin Airport in February
Passenger throughput at Dublin Airport exceeded 1.2 million for the month of February, a 14% decline over the same period last year, according to the Dublin Airport Authority.
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe fell by 16% with almost 570,000 passengers travelling to European destinations.
UK traffic recorded a decrease of 8% with just over 534,000 passengers travelling in February.
Just over 39,000 passengers travelled on domestic routes in February, down 31% over the previous year.
Passenger volumes to and from North America were down by 19% with more than 70,000 passengers travelling on this sector in February.
Other international passenger traffic to the Middle East decreased by 6%. More than 18,000 passengers travelled this route sector in February.

Cinnamon Rolls
Recipe
Makes 12 Rolls
Ingredients
Place water, egg, bread flour, white sugar, powdered milk, salt, 5 tablespoons butter and yeast in bread machine in the order suggested by the manufacturer. Select DOUGH setting, and turn machine on.
Meanwhile; in a small saucepan, melt 1/3 cup butter. Add 1/2 cup brown sugar and ice cream; bring to a boil, and cook for 2 minutes. Pour caramel into the bottom of a lightly greased 9 x 13 inch pan.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
When machine has finished cycling remove dough from pan and turn it out onto a lightly floured surface. Pat dough into a rectangle. Spread with softened butter and sprinkle lightly with cinnamon. Crumble 1/2 cup brown sugar over the top. Roll up, and seal edge. Cut into 12 rolls, and place in prepared pan of caramel. Allow to rise until doubled in size, about 45 minutes.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for approximately 20 to 25 minutes, until golden brown.
