Irish Mother

Irish girls have hair of gold,
Teeth of pearls and charms untold,
Lips of ruby, seldom kissed,
And eyes of matchless amethyst.

Irish men are tough as oak,
Shoulders wide as oxen yoke,
Eyes of clear Tipperary blue,
And lips as soft as mountain dew.

Irish father weathers gales,
Seldom falters, seldom fails,
Loves his land and likes his wife,
Cowed by nothing in this life.

Irish mother she is queen,
Ever present, seldom seen,
Father, sons and daughters all-
She will catch them when they fall.

"If there is righteousness in the heart,
there will be beauty in the character,
If there is beauty in the character,
there will be harmony in the home.

If there is harmony in the home,
there will be order in the nation,
When there is order in each nation,
there will be peace in the world".

Lao - Tse - 6th century
